Potato Ham Soup

I made a variation of the soup in the following link:


  • 1 large or 2 small yukon gold potatoes, diced
  • 1 sweet potato, diced
  • 1 onion, diced small
  • ham, diced and ham bone
  • 1 liter chicken broth
  • 2-4 TB butter
  • 2 TB flour
  • fresh rosemary, thyme, tarragon


  1. chop the onion and saute in the butter in a large pot until translucent, do not brown
  2. Chop the potatoes and add to the onion, stir well to coat with butter
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the potatoes and cook for a minute or two but don’t brown
  4. deglaze with broth, stir to incorporate
  5. Add ham and herbs, cover and simmer until potatoes are soft
  6. add milk, still well to incorporate and heat, adjust seasonings and serve
